The Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden has recently been named the next Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, a post he takes up at the start of the 2018-19 season. He is currently Music Director of both the Dallas Symphony and Hong Kong Philharmonic orchestras. His latest recording with the DSO is of Mahler's Third Symphony.

Jaap van Zweden was in London recently to conduct the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme that included the world premiere of Magnus Lindberg's Second Violin Concerto. Gramophone's James Jolly caught up with him to talk about guest conducting, Mahler and rehearsing his Dallas orchestra.
